Like most black tomatoes, Black Krim comes from the Crimean Peninsula on the Black Sea. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, the hot summers of that region produce the distinctive colors and high fruit sugar of these tomatoes. Black Krim produces a large beefsteak like tomato with dark maroon and purple coloring. In our climate, the “black” color tends to be less dramatic, but the taste is outstanding. With its sweet flavor, Black Krim tomatoes are perfect for salads, sandwiches, or slicing. In our 2016 Tomato and Pepper Trials, we found Black Krim to be the sweetest and largest of the black tomatoes.
