Late Bloomers: Planting Bulbs for a Beautiful Garden

Monday April 17, 2023

Are you feeling like you missed your chance to plant bulbs this year? Fear not! It’s not too late to create a stunning garden full of vibrant colors and unique textures. At O’Toole’s Garden Centers, there are still plenty of bulb options to choose from, including cannas, lilies, dahlias, and elephant ears.

To start, mix cow and compost into your peat-free potting mix, and add cocoa, coyer, and perlite. This will provide your bulbs with the nutrients they need to thrive. If you’re starting your bulbs inside, reuse plastic pots to get them growing before it warms up outside.

When planting dahlias, be sure to look for the “eyes” and plant them facing up in the pot outside. Lilies and bleeding hearts are also great choices for a late planting. Use a Magic bulb planter to make the process even easier.

Once your bulbs are planted, give them a good drink and keep them well-watered as they start to grow. With a little bit of care and attention, you’ll have a beautiful garden full of vibrant blooms in no time. Happy gardening!
